Caring for people is stressful. Stress can lead to errors.

 

A 2018 study (1) suggests that doctors’ mental health demonstrates very high levels of psychological distress and burnout. Growing demands and diminishing resources in the healthcare sector are likely to exacerbate stress levels in the near future.

 

Doctors suffering from burnout have a higher medication error rate that can lead to adverse patient outcomes.


The stigma associated with disclosing mental health challenges and ‘a failure to cope’ means that many doctors are reluctant to seek help as they fear sanctions and even job loss. And often help is seen as additional time pressure.

 

Mindfulness has been well documented as being effective in managing stress and burnout amongst medical practitioners. It has also been shown to enhance resilience and to improve the capacity to be flexible and adaptable in the face of challenges.

 

Previously Mindfulness was best served by being physically present at a specific time with an expert coach. This presents a challenge to time-starved health care professionals.

Please note: To experience the outcomes and the maximum benefit of the course it is very important that you are able to commit to an absolute minimum of 10 minutes of mindfulness practice each day. The session will be recorded for you to playback so should you miss the webinar you will be able to make it up at your convenience.
 
This course is suitable for anyone over the age of 18 as long as:

·         You are not currently experiencing significant anxiety or depression (unless you attend the course under the

           supervision of a suitably qualified therapist).

·         You have not experienced significant anxiety or depression unless there has been a three-month period since

           your moods have stabilized.

·         You are not experiencing significant stress caused by a major life event such as a bereavement, illness or

           separation.

·         If you are unsure if you meet these requirements, please contact us and we will be happy to discuss your

           readiness for the course with you.

·         You are prepared to participate in the live sessions. Participants may be asked for verbal feedback in order to

           gauge understanding in order to proceed to the next level. This is important.
